Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and alleviate discomfort associated with overly large breast.

Overly large breast can cause health and emotional problems. In addition to self-image issues, you may experience physical pain and discomfort. The weight of excess breast tissue can impair your ability to lead an active life. The emotional discomfort and self-consciousness often associated with having large pendulous breast can be as important an issue as the physical discomfort and pain.

If you are physically healthy and don’t smoke, and experience any of following symptoms, breast reduction would be a good option for you:

– neck pain
– shoulder pain
– back pain
– shoulder indentations from your bra straps
– skin irritation beneath the breast crease

Many health insurance plans cover breast reduction surgery. You can obtain a prior authorization from you insurer prior to surgery. At your consultation photos and a history of symptoms will be taken. A letter is then submitted to your insurance company for consideration, and once approved, you may schedule your surgery.

I Hate My Turkey Neck

Men, have you seen the show on your channel guide called “I hate my turkey neck”?

Do you look in the mirror and think I hate my turkey neck?  Is it getting more difficult to buy dress shirts that are comfortable with ties? Do you look heavier in the face despite not gaining weight? If the answer to all these questions is yes, a consultation for a neck lift may well be a beneficial idea that is not just for vanity. Ideally, a man should have a strong jaw line and a crisp chin-neck junction. Having hanging skin with or without fat excess that obscures the jaw line certainly can put forth the image of premature aging of the individual beyond his chronologic age. A neck lift can be a valuable tool to restore your appearance and convey youth and energy. The surgery is very predictable in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon and is an outpatient procedure with very little pain. Most people can be comfortable in social situation in two weeks.

Breast Lift, also known as Mastopexy

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

New statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show breast lifts have grown 70% since 2000, outpacing breast implants 2-to-1.

Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this as well.

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted.

A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from:
•Pregnancy
•Breastfeeding
•Weight fluctuations
•Aging
•Gravity
•Heredity

MOMMY MAKEOVER – GETTING YOUR BODY BACK AFTER PREGNANCY

Bringing a new life into the world is one of the most joyful experiences a woman can have. There is nothing quite like seeing your child’s face for the first time, knowing that all you went through in the previous nine months was worth every second. Unfortunately being pregnant can wreak havoc on your body.
You may ask yourself, “What can be done?” Well, most new moms start out with an excise or diet plan. However, even with the most extreme workouts, and the best diets, many moms find that they cannot recapture the body of their youth. Their skin has stretched and will not go back to the shape they once knew. This is where we can help. We offer several options for post pregnancy problems.  These options include liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift.
During your consultation with Dr. Williamson, he will discuss the best options for you to correct the problems you may face. Each procedure Dr. Williamson recommends will be suggested to meet your specific needs.  Our office has several financing options available. Call us for your free consultation at (706) 737-8827.

Are You Considering Otoplasty (Ear Tuck)?

Ear surgery, or otoplasty, it is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of 4 and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by the age of 4, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.

Ear surgery usually takes about two to three hours. The techniques will depend on the problem. Typically the surgeon makes a small incision in the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage. He or she will then sculpt the cartilage and bend it back toward the head. Non-removable stitches may be used to help maintain the new shape. Occasionally, the surgeon will remove a larger piece of cartilage to provide a more natural-looking fold when the surgery is complete. In most cases, ear surgery will leave a faint scar in the back of the ear that will fade with time.

The patient’s head is wrapped in a bulky bandage immediately following surgery to promote the best molding and healing. The ears may throb or ache a little for a few days, but this can be relieved by medication. Within a few days the bandages are replaced by a lighter head dressing similar to a headband. Stitches are usually removed in about a week. Most patients, young and old alike, are thrilled with the results of ear surgery.

My face looks 45, but my hands look like I am 60 – What can I do?

Like the rest of our bodies, our hands show signs of aging that may include brown spots, thinning skin, wrinkles, and large veins. There a few simple procedures that can make your hands match your face that are non-invasive and can be done successfully with impressive results and very little down time.

Brown spots on the hands can be treated topically with a daily application of hydroquinone cream. In addition, fine wrinkles and pigmentation may benefit from a chemical peel. Light TCA-peels are most effective for eliminating uneven pigmentation in the long term and smoothing the skin. Daily use of a good hand cream containing glycolic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Beta-carotene is recommended. With age and sun damage, the skin of the hands may also begin to atrophy, leaving hands with a bony appearance. Dermal fillers can be used to add volume to the back of the hand. These products are commonly used in other parts of the body, especially the face, and can be employed with minimal discomfort and virtually no down time.

We also offer Fraxel Laser Treatment on hands, face, neck, arms and chest areas to help rejuvenate the skin for a more youthful appearance.

We are offering Revanesse Ultra at a reduced rate for the next month, so call our office today for a free consultation and let us help you achieve a more youthful appearance. Our office also offers customized formulas to help rejuvenate any area of the body with significant sun-damage and other aging issues.

BUYERS BEWARE!

Recently it came to my attention that many of my colleagues (Plastic Surgeons ) are becoming very astute at “Marketing”. One, in particular, employs marketing assistants whose whole purpose is to talk with prospective “clients” (patients ) and sign them for surgery. They are sent to courses that teach the “art of closing the deal.” In other words, they are learning how to be a sales person. Their employment is based upon a quota. Quota not met, employment terminated.

I have long ago looked in the mirror and realized that I have become an old dinosaur. Try as I may, I can’t seem to find it within myself to morph into the high profile Cosmetic Surgeon. Sure, I have done some advertizing, mostly because I need to keep my name visible to patients seeking the services of a Plastic Surgeon as all my colleagues have done, but the game has changed. My idea is to make myself known and be of service if needed, but not to cast a bright, shiny lure in to the pool in an attempt to snag a fish and reel him in.

Now marketing is much more aggressive with seminars, 2 for 1 deals, discounts, and high pressure sales. Photos of models without an ounce of excess body fat posing as candidates for Cool Sculpting, and photo shopped post-op pictures are common place. Once in the office you are given the high pressure sales pitch. You might ask – “what is wrong with that?”

My approach has always been to wait for a prospective patient who has determined on her/his own that they have a problem or desire to have plastic surgery to call and make an appointment. At the consultation my approach is to honestly assess whether the patient can be significantly improved by my procedure. In addition, the psychological health and motivations for surgery need to be delicately examined. Finally, and most importantly, the age and status of the patient’s health must be determined so that minimal risks are involved if the procedure is to be done. ONLY after the patient is happy with her/his decision, made freely, without pressure or enticements, should surgery be scheduled.

An example would be: a 30 year old patient wanting a facelift. Virtually no 30 year old needs a facelift, therefore, the patient’s motives for surgery need to be carefully examined. We frequently see patients that are healthy 80+ years old who want facial cosmetic surgery. They are upset when they are rejected failing to understand that an invasive surgery at that age is enormously risky.

Meanwhile, in other offices, “clients” are considered income stream. So in the vernacular of the everyday business operation ( let us say, the used car lot ) the expression is “buyers beware”!

EYELID SURGERY – IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?

Has anyone asked you lately – are you OK? You look tired… BUT you feel fine?! This is the classic question for the patient who is nearing the time for eyelid surgery.

Eyelid surgery will freshen up the eye area, making you appear more rested, alert and even happy! And believe me, you will be HAPPY with how you look after this surgery.

The procedure can be done on just the upper eyelids or both the upper and lower.
The lower eyelid area is something that needs more medical attention to correctly diagnose the problem– sometimes it is too much fat, too much skin, and perhaps not enough of either. For this reason, it is imperative to have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon well skilled in these areas.
