Hair loss can be embarrassing, worrisome, and can affect your overall emotional wellbeing. While male pattern hair loss is most common, women can experience hair loss, too. Currently, there are only two medically certified drug treatments for hair loss: Propecia, which is a brand name for the drug Finasteride, and Rogaine, which contains a hair growth stimulating ingredient called Minoxidil.  Propecia is taken internally as a pill and can only be taken by men. Rogaine is a topical treatment and can be used by both men and women. Male pattern hair loss is generally caused in men by a substance in the body called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT.
