Dr.
Gary Williamson is a native of Athens, Georgia. Following
graduation from Athens High School in 1965, he entered the University
of Georgia, graduating in 1969. He then attended the Medical College
of Georgia, receiving his M.D. in 1973. While a student at MCG,
he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While
in medical school, he joined the U.S. Army. Upon graduation from
MCG, he was transferred to William Beaumont Army Medical Center
in El Paso, Texas where he did a straight surgery internship followed
by a general surgery residency from 1973 to 1978. He served as
Chief of General Surgery at Lyster Army Hospital at Fort Rucker,
Alabama. In 1978 he was board certified by the American Board
of Surgery. In 1979 he returned to El Paso to do his residency
in plastic surgery and was assigned to Dwight David Eisenhower
Medical Center as Chief of Plastic in 1981. In 1982 he became
a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In 1984 he
entered private practice in Augusta, Georgia where he maintains
privileges at University Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Doctors
Hospital. He has been both Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery
at St Joseph Hospital. He is now in his 23rd year of private practice.
Dr. Williamson and his wife, Ann, have been married 38 years and
are the proud parents of son Jeff and daughter Laura, and the
proud grandparents of Olivia and Margot Packard.
